The rock formations and topography of Bhimbetka transport you to a different world. Located about 45 km from Bhopal, the rock shelters are a must-see. Spread over a site 10 km in length and 3 km in width, the site has 700 rock shelters which were in use in the Palaeolithic and Mesolithic periods. Various tools from different periods have been found on the site.     There are rock paintings in 400 caves that show a wide range of styles over various periods. Some paintings are very simple with stick figures and some are very artistically drawn. These paintings give you a glimpse into the lives of the cave dwellers. This is a world heritage site worth taking a detour for!
