Fortress of the Gond Kings
Deogarh was the capital of the Gond Kings who ruled Nagpur in the 18th Century. This Gond Dynasty was founded by Jatba. The Deogarh fort was constructed in the 16th century and is located in the Chindwara district of Madhya Pradesh. Chand Sultan later moved his capital to Nagpur.
Located on a hill, the fort has a beautiful setting and is worth a visit.
The fort has a Durbar Hall, treasury, residential quarters, water tanks, hamam, places of worship among other buildings. Water was supplied through a system of clay pipes.
The country side is dotted with other monuments.
The village at the foot of the hill is well worth a visit. The villagers have incorporated the rocky landscape into their houses. As a rockery and a wash area …
