Hill Fort (Built by Rajas of Warangal)
Medak is a historical town situated at a distance of 96 km from Hyderabad In ancient times this town was known as Siddapuram. In course of time, the name was changed into Methuku which subsequently came to be known as Medak. The fort at Medak was originally constructed by the Kakatiya rulers and later developed by the Qutb Shahi rulers. The fort which stands about 90 meters above the surrounding plains is one of the important hill forts in the Deccan region.
It was built on a rocky knoll and then fortified with bastions and walls which rise one above the other in several tiers. Inside the fort a Dutch-made 10 feet long brass gun was placed.
There is a Mosque built in the year 1641. The Mubarak Mahal in the fort has a carved double-headed eagle monster (Gandabherunda) with elephants in its beaks and claws, on one of its gateways, which is an emblem of Vijayanagara rulers while the inscriptions here are in Kannada language. It has three main entrances, the “Prathama Dwaram”, the “Simha Dwaram” which has two snarling lions at the top of the entrance, and the “Gaja Dwaram”, or Elephant’s Entrance that has a sculpture of two elephants interlocked on both sides of the entrance. The wood used as a support for the stable roof (Terminalia paniculata) can still be seen there.

The Two Fort Gates (inner and outer)
The fort is said to have been built in 1403 CE. It covers an area of 76 acres with a perimeter of about 2515 yards. Originally, it had only one entrance and later on, one more gate was added. The first gatewas built using lime mortar. The arch and the sides are built with granite stones in lime mortar and iron. The doors are made of strong wood. There is a small door to its left side, for individuals to enter. Its massive wooden doors aredressed in granite stones with cement mortar. On the top of the gateway is a Persian inscription which exhorts the devout muslim to trust in Ali and Muhammad to ward off the difficult moments of life.

Ballarpur Fort
Ballarpur Fort is the oldest area in Ballarpur. It was built by Gond King Khandkya Ballal Sah in 13th century. On the death of Gond king Surja alias Ser Sah, his son Khandkya Ballal came to the throne. This prince had tumours all over his body. He was looked after by his wise and beautiful wife. When no remedy could heal Khandkya she induced him to leave Sirpur and reside on the northern bank of the Wardha, where he erected a fort named Ballarpur. Khandkya Ballal thus founded Ballarpur. Later he left Ballarpur and erected another fort in Chandrapur.
